About the Public Governance Institute
The Public Governance Institute is a research,
education and training group. Founded in 2001, the Institute
assists public leaders and institutions in their effort to lead
public-sector change.
We propose a set of tools that enable public leaders to realize
the full results of the policy changes they implement. Working
with experienced partners from the public, social, and private
sectors, the Public Governance Institute takes the best practices
from each and deploys them in the public arena.
The Public Governance Institute is available to help you develop
the skills to transcend the natural barriers to change: resistance,
culture and resource (money and people) capacity. However, the
Institute will not be telling you what to do
in terms of policy or decision-making; instead, we’ll
focus on helping your organization learn how
to increase its capacity to grasp and successfully lead complex
change projects.
Once mastered, these skills will enable the leadership and their
teams to achieve three vital things: Assess their own needs,
prioritize among competing initiatives, and effectively launch
(install) and implement (realize desired outcomes)
a change-related agenda -- without relying on outside assistance.
Also, under the umbrella of “Leading Public-Sector Change,”
the Institute conducts bi- or multi-party programs designed
to help political leaders of various political and philosophical
labels to find ways to work together. The Institute organizes
seminars, issue meetings and retreats to facilitate the exchange
of sometimes contradictory ideas, thereby giving leaders the
possibility to “disagree in agreeable fashion.”
The objective of these programs is what we call Candor
plus Comity, which differs from papering over differences
or denying the validity of the arguments presented by the other
party.
Our work in this niche ends up strengthening democratic institutions.
If you think our methods or programs can be of service to you
and your mission in governance, please e-mail, phone or fax
us from anywhere on the globe. Experience of our partners has
proven these very human fundamentals apply in all nations and
cultures.
