ABOUT
THE CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION
(“An Artistic Discovery”)
The
2005 winners of the Congressional Art Competition, the 24th,
created this art, accessible through the
links below. The artists are high school students in the picture
to the left. One Republican and one Democrat
Member of the U.S. House serve as co-chairs of the competition,
which is open to all high school students in all Congressional
Districts. Co-chairs for 2005 are Representatives Vito Fossella
(R-NY) and Linda T. Sánchez (D-CA). Contests are conducted
locally, at the discretion of each Member of the House, and art
by first-place winners is displayed in a walkway between the House
office buildings and the U.S. Capitol. Over the course of its existence,
the contest has enabled student artists to be recognized, and
for their artistic talents to
be displayed for a wide
audience. The exhibit is a favorite point of interest in the U.S. Capitol.
The annual competition and celebration, underwritten by General Motors,
is one of the most popular events in the U.S. House of Representatives.
